Enter The Realm Of Chess

The game of chess is perhaps the most popular of intellectual games. It has been mastered by kings and kids alike, played by hustlers and head's of state. It is a game that crosses racial, political, geographical and religious boundaries. The game of chess connects people like no other game. Technology has allowed chess players to meet other enthusiast's from across the globe via the internet. This blog is the story of how I became reacquainted with the game and how it literally saved my life when I was diagnosed with cancer.

However, this blog is more than reflections of my relationship with chess. It is a guide to those who want to learn how to play the game, taught by a beginner for a beginner. Along the way, I'll touch on other related subjects and the connection they have with this grand game. So sit back and enjoy the interesting and often strange world of chess.

i've always been intimidated by chess - thought that it was beyond me, or that it was for people much smarter than i. my dad tried to teach it to me when i was a kid but i played like a berserker, flinging my troops into battle without forethought or strategy. i think if i had applied myself to chess more i might have approached other things in my life less impulsively. but maybe that's just a romantic notion.
